About GSBYRA
The Great South Bay Yacht Racing Association (GSBYRA) is a local sailing organization promoting recreational and educational sailing, boat building, on the water safety, and maritime heritage. GSBYRA supports sailors of all ages and abilities from 16 member clubs on the south shore of Long Island, New York, by promoting racing in accordance with the Racing Rules of Sailing, coordinating a regatta schedule for the bay, running Race Week and local Championship events that lead to national US SAILING events. GSBYRA welcomes sailors to participate in sailing activities, enjoy camaraderie at social events, have fun, volunteer, and explore educational opportunities with fellow sailors.
Founded September 27, 1906 as a not-for-profit sailing organization, GSBYRA operates as a volunteer organization. Volunteers from the member clubs meet, discuss and exchange ideas to standardize formats, encourage communication among sailors, fleets, and member clubs, and update policies. Delegates from the 16 member clubs and elected officers direct the Association and recently expanded the mission to include more types of sailing organizations able to participate, and to recognize sponsors who help fund the mission. GSBYRA accepts tax-deductible donations.
