Junior Sailing 2013

Junior sailors up to age 18 who take sailing lessons at their clubs and are interested in Friday competition at different clubs should check the Schedule page for the July and August GSBYRA Junior Regatta dates. Either Sailing Instructors or parents must accompany youngsters and their boats to Junior Regattas. There is no entry fee. All youngsters must bring a completed Junior Regatta Entry Form to register at each event, and all Sailing Instructors must bring a copy of the medical information for each child.

Sailing Instructors from the host club run the races, and Sailing Instructors who accompany youngsters are expected to assist any sailors having difficulty during races, and are expected to coach all sailors after racing ends. Host clubs organize lunches and snacks for a minimal fee and often sell club shirts. Youngsters socialize with sailors from other clubs, and every competitor earn points for their club toward the GSBYRA Team Trophy awarded in October to the club with the most points from all the Junior Regattas. Scoring for the Team Trophy is a reverse low point system, and each sailor receives an additional point for competing.

Junior sailors and Sailing Instructors may compete in weekend GSBYRA Invitational Races and Race Week listed on the schedule. Entry forms are on the Forms page, and the Notices of Race are linked to event on the Schedule page. Only Race Week has an entry fee.

Junior sailors can also find information for all Midget and Junior Championships on the Championships and Forms pages.
