Information

Junior sailors up to age 18 who take club sailing lessons and are interested in Friday competition at different clubs should check the Schedule pages for GSBYRA Junior Regattas. To compete all juniors must register in advance with the Regatta Network link for each event. Accurate medical information is requested on the entry form. Either Sailing Instructors or parents must accompany youngsters and their boats to Junior Regattas. Sailing Instructors who accompany juniors must bring a copy of the medical information for each child to the event, are expected to assist any sailors having difficulty during races, and are expected to coach all sailors after racing ends.

Youngsters socialize with sailors from other clubs, and every competitor earns points for their club toward the GSBYRA Team Trophy awarded to the club with the most points from all the Junior Regattas. Scoring for the Team Trophy is a reverse low point system. Additionally, the top qualifying junior sailor in each class from a GSBYRA member club is awarded a Season Trophy. These trophies are awarded at the Fall Annual GSBYRA Meeting and Dinner.

Sailing Instructors from the host club run the races. Host clubs organize lunches and snacks, and often have club shirts. Only Junior sailors may compete in Junior Regattas and Junior Race Week listed on the schedule. Sailing Instructors may compete in weekend GSBYRA Invitational Races and Race Week.

Junior sailors can find information for all Midget and Junior Bay Championships on the Championships pages. Junior sailors should sign up for a My Regatta Network Account to keep track of their events and keep track of their yearly sailing experiences on the second page of the Sailing Grant application page.
